The Village’s volunteer form of government has served our tax-paying residents very well over the last 100 years. \nWhen incorporated on January 22\, 1924\, there was a 1 room schoolhouse that was replaced that year by a two-room brick building\, and our first police officer was hired. A lot has changed over the last 100 years except the people. The residents here have always enjoyed a bit of city life with the safety of suburban life.

SUMMARY:60th Annual Danish Festival
DESCRIPTION:In 1964 a contest was held to develop a way to promote Greenville. Three business owners offered a cash prize to the person submitting the winning idea. Mrs. Dorothy Oliver was the winner with her suggestion that a day be set aside to honor the Danish heritage that Greenville enjoys. \nThe first Danish Festival was held on August 18\, 1965. Today a 12-20 member Board of Directors and hundreds of volunteers are responsible for developing and presenting the festival\, which draws crowds of over 55\,000. This total community effort makes it possible for Greenville to host the Danish Festival year after year. \nEvery effort is made to maintain the festival as a non-commercial community event. The Danish Festival incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1968 and achieved 501c3 status in 2015.

DESCRIPTION:The festival unofficially began in 1924 as a Coast Guard personnel only picnic when the local Coast Guard station held rowing competitions for those service members stationed in Grand Haven. Today the Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival has become a premier event with attendance of over 350\,000 people including the nations highest ranking Coast Guard dignitaries from Washington\, D.C. \nThe focus of the annual Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival is the National Coast Guard Memorial Service honoring those who sacrificed their lives in the service of their country while fulfilling their motto “SEMPER PARATUS” (“Always Ready”). Each year since the first picnic in 1924 and the first festival in 1937\, we have celebrated our heroes\, the men and women of the United States Coast Guard with fun filled family events at the annual Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival. Grand Haven is honored by its designation as “Coast Guard City\, USA” by an Act of Congress and signed by the President of the United States on November 13\, 1998. \nSuccessfully honoring the men and women of the United States Coast Guard at this annual event would not be possible without the cooperation of the United States Coast Guard\, the local municipalities of Grand Haven\, Spring Lake\, and Ferrysburg\, hundreds of dedicated volunteers\, and our generous corporate sponsors. \n100 year anniversary with Drone Light Show Friday night with the infamous Lighted Fountain!
